Chuck Oaklander – Wood Wave

Wood wave sculpted by Chuck Oakander. Monterey cypress log from West Marin, California, 2014.

Placed alongside the path at the Triangle is this unique wooden sculpture welcoming people to the grassy meadow and providing a stopping point for visitors. “I see lines in our landscape that resemble waves reaching the shore”, explains the artist, Chuck Oaklander. “As a life-long surfer, fisherman and arborist, I am driven to collect and transform what would otherwise become green waste. Over 25 years of watching logs head for the firewood pile or the dump has compelled me with the determination and energy to release the waves within the wood.”

After a long day moving the sculpture by truck from his studio in Bolinas and over Mt Tam and into San Francisco and then by wheeled cart onto the Triangle and then installing the supports through the NaturePave on into the night and getting it all just right…  The next day it was ready to test out!

Thank you Chuck and Cass and the whole team from Oaklander Studios!
